My husband, Brion, is from Maine. We go there every year to visit his mom, kids, grand kids, nieces, nephews, sister ……. This is the gang from last summer. We hope to own a home there soon and spend the summers there when Brion retires. Brion’s mom, Marlene, is such an awesome cook. Pictured here are her molasses cookies, yummy!
Recipe for Marlene’s Molasses Cookies:
3 1/2 cups flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1 teaspoon ground ginger, 1 teaspoon ground cloves, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup Crisco shortening, 1 egg, 1/2 cup sour milk (to make sour milk, put 2 teaspoons white vinegar in measuring cup and then add milk to make 1/2 cup), 1 cup molasses
Mix first six dry ingredients and set aside. Cream sugar and shortening, add egg, sour milk and molasses. Add dry ingredients and stir. Drop by spoonful onto greased cookie sheet and put flour on your fingers to flatten a little. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Yield: Approx. 30 cookies
