Peace in Christ. I listened to a song yesterday by 5-year old Claire Ryann Crosby and her dad. Such a sweet song. The words included: “Listen to His words, let them come alive, if we know Him as he is there is peace in Christ, He gives us hope, when hope is gone, He gives us strength, when we can’t go on, He gives us shelter, in the storms of life, when there’s no peace in earth, there is Peace in Christ.”
In Colossians 3:15 is says “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
Peace is the opposite of feeling worry or frustration or despair or boredom. It’s how we feel when everything is good-when our circumstances are bringing us full and lasting joy and pleasure. But this peace does not depend on circumstances. Which is why Paul calls it -The Peace of Christ. The peace of Christ is a feeling of peace that is given to us by Christ when we trust-not our circumstances-but all that God promises to be to us in Christ.
God sent His only Son to earth for one main reason-to die on the Cross as payment for our sins-all of them. When Jesus said “It is finished” the debt was payed in full.
Romans 5:1 “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
When there’s no peace on earth, there IS peace in Christ.
Dear God, we come to you today and ask that you grant us peace in the middle of our raging storms. Give us the peace we desire within our mind, body and soul, so that our hearts would not be troubled even as the gale sweeps down upon us. As the future presents its own fears, calm our storms and settle our hearts. Amen.
