I was listening to KSBJ radio station yesterday and I heard “Not everything that wears you down is yours to carry” and it made me stop and think about that statement.

Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Jesus tells all who are weary and burdened to come to Him for rest. He was talking here of the heavy burden of the system of works that the Pharisees laid on the backs of the people that Jesus was offering to relieve.

The good news is that Jesus promises to all who come to Him that He will give them rest from the heaven burden of trying to earn our way into heaven and rest from the oppressive yoke of self-righteousness and legalism. Jesus encourages those who are “heavy laden” to take His yoke upon them, and in doing so they will find rest for their souls. The yoke of Jesus is light and easy to carry because it is the yoke of repentance and faith followed by a singular commitment to follow Him. John says in 1 John 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.”

God is always there beside us pulling the weight for us, if we will only yield our lives to Him. The only time the load becomes overbearing is when we try to take over and do the pulling, or handle the load ourselves.

God promised, “For my yoke is easy, and My load is light.” It is tailor made for each of us and furthermore, He is always with us to bear the burden.

God is Greater than the burdens you are carrying. Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you. Psalm 55:22
