Unspeakable Joy Devotional

April 3rd

LOL-Laugh out loud! “….a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.” Ecclesiastes 3:4

I love to laugh! It would be disheartening to think that God would not want us to laugh. He created laughter in us. Humor and joy are mentioned many times throughout Scripture: Proverbs 17:22 says “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” It is proven that laughter helps to lower blood pressure and reduces stress hormones. In Genesis 21:6 “Sarah said, ‘God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.” Sarah laughed when she was told in her old age she would have a son. Laughter is a response to God’s love and grace that He showers on us. Life is full of good times and bad, challenges and victories. There is “a time to weep and a time to laugh, and time to mourn and a time to dance.” Ecclesiastes 3:4 Laughter helps balance our life. If we only feel pain, grief or even just joy our life would be out of balance.

David in Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” David shares not only his sorrow and anger with God but also his laughter and joy.

I have so many great memories filled with laughter with family and friends. We can get wrapped up in our responsibilities, busyness, work and more serious parts of life. Laughter is an expression of our joy and it helps make life easier, better, and more relaxed.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” I am so thankful God created us and He created laughter too!

Healthy laughter is a wonderful gift from God. He gives us the ability to Laugh Out Loud LOL with family and friends. Next time you Laugh Out Loud LOL, send up a silent “thank you” to our Father in heaven for this blessing.
