Evening Prayers. Psalm 31:1-5 “In you, O Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness. Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me. Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me. Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge. Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O Lord, the God of truth.”
I have a tendency to end each day totally exhausted and don’t always end my day like I started it. I tend to be a morning person and it is easier for me to focus on my quiet time with the Lord. However, if we also end our day with prayer we can look back on the events of our day with gratitude and confession. We can thank God for His abundant goodness, and we ask forgiveness for the sins we have committed that day.
Because of Jesus, we have the assurance of forgiveness and the certainty of God’s watchful love. So before you sleep, talk to the Lord. Thank him for His grace, and place your life in His strong hands.
Psalm 121:3 “…He who watches over you will not slumber.” We can entrust God to His watchful care of us. (PH)
This is my childhood prayer I would say at night before bedtime: Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray to God my soul to take.
Psalm 3:5 “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.”
