Not Today Satan! A popular phrase proclaimed by many Christians. But when we are run down, going through personal storms, repeatedly hearing fear and hatred from the culture, and allow comparison, negativity, and control to dominate our thoughts, we aren’t opening the door to God. We are opening a window to another visitor.

We should be reminded of two things 1) we are made in the image and likeness of God and 2) Christ is the Messiah. These two truths profoundly opened the eyes of Noah and the Apostles. For Noah, a covenant was created between God and man. Genesis 9:9 “And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you.” For the Apostles, they were beginning to understand the sacrifice Christ would endure and how quickly human fears and thoughts can control actions. Mark 8:33 “But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan; for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.” We are much the same, trusting in our own strength instead of that of God.

We understand the covenant God made with us and the sacrifice Christ endured for our salvation. Yet still we allow Satan to twist the truth of love God established from the beginning.

We were born into a vicious war. Satan is real. He roams the world speaking lies and deceiving whoever will listen. We must be willing to battle.

1 John 5:19 says, “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.”

Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” Matthew 16:23

As Christians, we are armed with the Word of God. The same power that God has is the same power that lies within us. The next time you feel Satan creeping in, make this declaration: Not Today Satan!
