Call Me Blessed: A Lesson Learned From Mary. Luke 2:49 “And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?”
Do you ever want to break into song? Perhaps a promise fulfilled makes you pour forth praise? Mary certainly did. One encouraging word from Elizabeth and her full heart overflowed. Luke 2:46-55 “And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; as he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.”
Like Mary, we are blessed for He has done great things for us. You see, the God who has performed mighty deeds in the past performs them in the present, too. Oh, we don’t always feel blessed, but God’s word says that in Christ we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing. Ephesians 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.”
Romans 10:12-13 puts it this way: “For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
What greater blessing could there be? The Lord hears and answers, showing mercy again and again. He is not far off; He dwells within us. When we ask for wisdom, He provides it. James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” When we confess our sins, he forgives them 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” When we “hunger and thirst for righteousness.” He fills us up Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst for righteousness: for they shall be filled.” Just like Mary, we can say, “He has filled the hungry with good things.” Let us be filled with His Spirit today!
Today, worship the Lord as Mary did. Pour out your praise to him. Tell of his marvelous deeds, the ones he’s done in your life. Thank Him for the ways He has met your needs, fulfilled your desires and been faithful to you.
